I went to Dave & Buster’s in San Jose today with a whole bunch of people from my “extended” team at work. Holy crap! Talk about All American!

There’s booze, there’s food, then there’s arcade games. And it’s only for adults, so no pesky kids hogging the games!

I had some nachos as an appetiser, linguini with blackened chicken and mushrooms as an “entree” (American for main course) and then doughnut holes and chocolate fondue for dessert. Add a couple of 25 oz Guinness to that list and you have yourself a party! Oh yea!

Then we had a mini competition in the massive arcade downstairs. My team came last! Woohoo!

I rented a place! It’s a one bedroom apartment in Mountain View and a 10-minute ride from the office. I even got a mailbox with my name on it! How exciting!

Oh yea, despite it only being one bedroom, it is actually quite big. Big enough to sleep a visitor or three from Australia for a few days. So, if you’re planning to head to the bay area for any reason, drop me a line!

Just testing the Gallery2 and Wordpress integration… what a nightmare to setup. The layout of the pages with the embedded gallery is all messed up, but I don’t care enough to try and fix it.

This is the outside of the apartment where I’ve been staying for the last couple of weeks.

I went to San Francisco briefly today after picking up a colleague from San Francisco International airport.

First we went to Fisherman’s Wharf, saw Alcatraz and the Golden Gate bridge through the fog. We walked around to see the sea lions, then around to investigate Alcatraz tours. We then went up to Lombard Street, where we climbed the really really steep bit (which is really steep)!

We caught the cable car down to Chinatown, then walked up to Coit Tower, where the view was pretty spectacular (the fog had pretty much cleared by this stage).

I wish I had photos of all this stuff. I was surprised by how steep the streets were, I don’t think we really have that in any Australian city!

I will try and rectify the camera situation soon. I am tossing up whether to buy the Canon EOS 400D (aka the Digital Rebel XTi, 10 megapixels), or the EOS 30D (more expensive, higher framerate, “feels” nicer).

I also have to sort out:

• somewhere to live
• something to drive
• some method of getting paid (I need a social security number, pronto)
